Note

The rattle-like instruments (čegrtaljka, klepetaljka, small bell) were used as essential instruments during the Holy week (from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday) in most parts of Croatia. They were used instead of church bells. Church bells were silenced - tied during this period, so these instruments became something like a symbol of the Holy week. The rattle instruments were used instead of bells to announce church ceremonies.
