Note

The instrument had various names across Croatia - čegrtaljka, škrebetalo, škrebetaljka. In some parts of Croatia people also called it a windmill (vjetrenjača), because it was placed in a field or vineyard and attached to a tall pole (stick) in order for the wind to move it so as to produce sound.

Čekalo is very similar to this rattle. Čekalo was installed at mills and set to rattle every time the granary ran empty.
