The Collection of Musical Instruments
The tamburitza is crafted from bright wood. The body is shaped as a smaller guitar with a long neck which is notched on top. The neck is rounded on the back, it is slanted on top, and a metal mount with four manufactured pegs is attached to it. The mount is decorated with plant and geometrical etchings. The instrument’s body is hollowed from one block, and the top board is glued to it. The tamburitza is decorated with the technique of intarsia in dark wood.
The tamburitza was crafted in Kunčani, in the Žumberak mountains. It was crafted by a self-taught artisan who, most likely. crafted it for his own solo use. The fret wires are placed unusually, the ornaments are rough, the body is guitar-shaped, the pegs are placed one beneath the other. This peculiar design suggest that it is a unique creation and that the artisan drew on his own inspiration.
