Note

This flute was J. Šlesinger’s gift. He was the manager of the Serbian Princely Instruments. He gave it to Kuhač for his Collection.

“The flutes and the šaltve are most widely spread among south Slavs, because there is no village from the Balkans, the Adriatic sea and all the way to Carpathian Mountains, in which you will not find the flute. The flute playing skill is so common that people are surprised when a gentleman or a foreigner cannot play it. Even female children can play it, despite the opinion that it is not appropriate for women and girls to play the flute.” (Kuhač 1877: 12)
