Description

The diple consist of a chanter onto which an annular part and a stock are attached. There are two single clarinet-type mouthpieces inside the stock. Two cylindrical pipes are bored through the chanter, and the finger-holes are arranged 6:2. The surface around the holes is slightly embedded with a knife. In this way the chanter is divided into six fields on the upper section.

Note

The stock is ornamented with a carved human head with two eyes. The eyes were made using the cold stamp technique, i.e. a hot wire or some other metal object was used to impress a specific detail onto a smooth surface. The head is heart-shaped and a nose is carved (there is no mouth). The diple are used as a shepherd’s instruments, however in order to play this instrument one needs to possess specific skills and knowledge.
