The kaval is richly ornamented with carved circles. Playing holes are somewhat closer arranged than on other types of flute, and there is a piece of paper on the flute which says:
“The blunted flute (bugar, Kaval) from Slovakia”
Underneath each playing hole Kuhač wrote the tone A; G; F; Es; D, C, B. The instrument is intended for pastoral music.
